data-vce-do-apply=\"all el-be4e5a1d\"><h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Le Pietre Gemelle<\/h1>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">IN LATINO PETRAE GEMELLAE, IN TITTSCHU PRESSMILCH, IN ITALIANO PIETRE GEMELLE O ANCHE PRESMELL<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Si narra che un macigno, rotolato dal fianco del monte, all\u2019impatto con il fondo della valle si spacc\u00f2 in due parti uguali tra loro, che sembravano guardarsi in faccia. Sono queste le pietre \u201cgemelle\u201d che si vedono tra la strada statale ed il fiume Sesia a poco meno di met\u00e0 percorso tra Riva Valdobbia e Alagna, e hanno dato il nome alla comunit\u00e0 che fino al 1475 comprendeva l\u2019intero territorio di Riva Valdobbia e Alagna.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">In latino Petrae Gemellae, in tittschu Pressmilch, in italiano Pietre Gemelle o anche o Presmell. La pi\u00f9 antica attestazione della sua esistenza \u00e8 un documento dell\u2019Archivio Civico di Vercelli (Codice Biscioni) che contiene il giuramento di fedelt\u00e0 a Vercelli da parte dei valsesiani, risalente all\u2019anno 1217: in esso compare tale \u201cGuidetus filius Johannis de Petris Zumellis\u201d quale unico rappresentante di Pietre Gemelle.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Fino al 1325 la Comunit\u00e0 era subordinata alla Parrocchia di Scopa: l\u2019arrivo del popolo Walser, il conseguente aumento della popolazione e la crescente difficolt\u00e0 a raggiungere una cos\u00ec lontana localit\u00e0 indussero all\u2019autonomia.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Venne cos\u00ec istituita la Parrocchia autonoma di S.
