The first "Rules" governing the fishing of the river Sesia appear in 1478, when in all probability this practice was widespread as a means of livelihood.
Today the river Sesia is among the most famous in Italy for lovers of sport fishing: fishing grounds and clarity of its waters are among the most appreciated features of this important waterway, the natural habitat of many species.
The Sesia also boasts a very large basin, about 300km from rivers, streams and canals, as well as fifteen pristine alpine lakes in a picturesque natural setting with alternating green meadows, plains and steep gorges.
The river heritage and sport fishing are regulated by the Company Valsesiana Sport Fishermen (SVPs): except for the fishing grounds to special rules for access to water is through annual leave, fortnightly and daily, in addition to government permission.
